Drawn! links to I Love Cartoons!, a trove of loving evocations and thoughtful reconsiderations of familiar cartoon characters. I think Ale Garza's The FLintstones (above) is altogether charming. Mitch O'Connell has a field-day with 70s-era Hanna-Barberra characters, including Hong-Kong Phooey. Bob Almond clearly wants to give Marvin the Martian a fighting chance. And I have to admit I found these takes on Judy Jetson and Betty Boop rather unsettling. There's lots more for those of us born nostalgic, so hurry over and enjoy!

Where's the humour? Bob Almond took the "toon" out of cartoon.
Now that you mention it, Pebbles looks like she's been Gorilla-fied, too. A worthy update for all three, I think (now where's Barney and Betty?).
Well, at least they let Fred have onkly the four toes that Hanna-Barberra blest him with. And Wilma!? Geez, she looks like she's been doing leg lifts with the couches and chairs. Her face, especially when compared with poor Fred's, shows how she has already evolutionized herself to the 21st century. Forget the boredom and dishes of Cro-Magnon man; she looks as if she's waiting for that special metrosexual to come calling.
"Metrosexual"? I'm not so sure. A) She looks pretty happy with the current arrangement, and B) I'd like to see said "Metrosexual" try to get around Fred! (verification: "nwbudtv"!)
If you want to see further perversions of Hanna Barbera animation, check out Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law either on Teletoon, or DVD at your best stocked rental shop. Some of the episodes feature Fred Flintstone as "the Dabba Don" in a Sopranos-esque lampoon was great. Also, Yogi Bear and "the Unabooboo" is pretty hilarious!
