Podcast: Tar And Feathers

First, a related bit of news: I've made the PDF of Youthful Desires free for the taking; follow this link and hit "download."

And there is a new podcast for your listening pleasure. Download it here, or stream it here.

Enjoying these a great deal, Darrell. I hope they'll keep coming.

Funny thing: your recordings are the only items on my little iPod here that have 'cover art,' which means I've got your benignant, blurred mug observing me, as though from across a room, every time I turn the device on — a pleasant thing. The photo was a nice touch.

No kidding? It's nice to know the tags are working!

Darrell, thanks for offering YD for download. Cool beans and great fiction. ( It is fiction...?)

Here's the thing; I've read the stories first, then I listened to your podcast readings of them.

You wrote them, so obviously you know where you intended the nuances of pronunciation and emphasis, but strangely, it jangles with my own reading interpretation.

Almost as if the stories have these invisible layers, only viewed when read aloud.

An odd, unintended effect?

I know exactly what you mean, CP. Years ago I went to hear Don DeLillo read from Underworld. He first surprised me with his choice of passage -- a portion of the novel that I hadn't found especially illuminating. He then surprised me with his reading of it, which was actually quite revelatory.

Of course, I've also heard authors who haven't done their work any favors. But it's kinda neat how everyone has a slightly different perspective on any given work, isn't it?
