Writer's strike!

Television writers in Hollywood and Manhattan go on the picket line (CBC link). I remember Miami Vice and Crime Story getting incredibly crappy during the Writers's Strike of '88. You'd think those shows could write themselves but you'd be wrong.

"Um, Crime Story — car chases & gunplay, right?"

SLEEPING BEAUTY, Steinbach, MB 1970(?)

This must have been during "Pioneer Days" in August:

In the 'Bach around 1970 or so there was a black fibreglass float of Monstro the Whale. I remember clmbing into Monstro's mouth, sitting in a wooden chair and watching film clips of the Good Prince slashing giant black thorns with his sword (talk about mixed messages!). The Walt Disney version of Sleeping Beauty became the only version of Sleeping Beauty, after that.

"Next up: Monstro's mouth!"

Gordon Lightfoot, 1938-2023

Singer and songwriter of "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald." Also this:

William Shatner

I have two different friends who have experienced William Shatner. For one of these friends this has resulted in happy stories for the other, no.

Watch Galaxy Quest. That is all.

Born to consume, summer 1984

At the Red Rock Bible Camp tuck shop a salesperson would reach for the very bottom of the deep-freeze unit and fetch a Burnt Almond dark chocolate bar.

I lived for those chocolate bars. I also liked 4 Flavours but that was not a tuck shop experience.

YouTube music videos

You know what I've been digging:

I also think Devin Townsend Project's The Mighty Masterbator is pretty spiffy, too (link).

The late Ron Dini commented on this video when I posted it on Facebook:

Blue Heron Books, Uxbrige, Ontario

Another shout-out to Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge, Ontario (McNally Robinson Books in Winnipeg, Manitoba is also mentioned).  I love Blue Heron too, but Uxbridge is a 30 minute drive from C'ton. She saved my very life — I can not, in good conscience, ask my wife to drive down every time a good book is released. ("Well, you can ask...")

It is actually less expensive to have everything physical mailed to our box at the local Post Office.

Besides, an independent bookstore treated my dear friend so badly that I now do everything online. One person suffers we all suffer, baby!

But I'm still a sucker for Gaspereau Press and handwritten reviews parked under books.

Hey, can you dust my shelves too?
