Let me second that endorsement.
I disagreed with about half of what Phil wrote about the Bible, but I found it a fascinating and insightful essay nonetheless.
And that one on writing was really good. It got me thinking a lot.
I caught the piece on (not) teaching writing without much previous awareness of Christman, curiously. Was among its social sharers, as you might’ve noticed — as much because of personal friendliness with one or two of the Bruderhof folks (via past connection, originally) and generally sympathetic vibes between their publishing and S.H.’s organizational ambitions as because of what he had to say there. Did not remember, if I once knew, that he was among the serious religion-literate-anglosphere bloggers of yore. Hadn’t noticed the other Plough item you point to here, either, but certainly do intend to give it a look now.

pdb - "peak blogging" was '06, by my reckoning. Thirteen years ago Phil was a much younger man, and the seriousness is something he has cultivated and brought to the fore fairly recently. It's a good look!
"Seriousness = it's a good look" -- not that I'll be trying it on anytime soon. Why start now?
Ha, seriousness has always been my shtick, to very little apparent good effect. Confident there’s a case to be made for it, but somebody other than me should be making it, probably.
