I don't know how you look past your shoes and not see climate change. I should be an ideal audience. But Don't Look Up is a lousy movie.
There is no tension, first and foremost. The script would never make it in the classroom. See Terminator 2 if you must. Or watch Adaptation. Either way you'll get some idea what I'm talking about.
You will have to look up Adaptation. The other two are on Netflix.
Great to have you back.
ReplyDeleteI'll be testing out the comments.
I never saw Don't Look Up. (It's been a year or two of not seeing much, actually). So thanks for saving me the trouble.
T. and I watched it with her folks at their place in Oshkosh, soon after it first aired I think. Kind of fun family fare in that (staunchly Dem-voting family) setting, but — yeah, really just a lousy lousy movie. And not to feel hollow inside at the end of that thing, if you are (as of necessity I am too these days, of course) the staunchly Dem-voting type, is surely the mark of some sort of tortured true-believerhood.
ReplyDeleteMy not-a-Dem-voter brother and I sat and smoked over on the failing Lake Michigan stormbreak when he was here on business last week and talked about sea level and so forth. He’s kind of moving to post-denial, as a lot of people seem kind of to be. Hard for me to take much comfort in it.
ReplyDelete(That was actually this week, couple of days ago, wasn’t it. Time is funny.)
ReplyDeleteI would, like Joel, have spared you the 90 minutes but I see you, Paul, and your brother have spun into silk the sow's ear this movie was.

ReplyDeleteIt’s a mercy that besides being bad, this movie’s deeply forgettable. I haven’t thought about it since the week or so where it was a twitter topic. I know it never came to mind as he & I were chatting there. (Safe assumption, then, as I consider now, is that he hasn’t seen it. So even if it had come to mind, wouldn’t have come into the conversation.)
Hey, I don't want to give McKay any more thought then he merits. James Cameron OTOH, or that Kaufman fellow...
