My wheezy old laptop from '98 finally fell apart. That was my "composition" computer. I didn't hook it up to the internet; I just used it for word processing, and that was it. I haven't yet replaced it, so ... you get a picture of Gordie Howe, circa 2001, courtesy of GQ and my scanner. Enlarge and enjoy.
Speaking of hockey, I'm having trouble enjoying the first round of playoffs. The teams I really want to see play each other have another round or two to go, and in some cases they're looking like they might not have it in them to get that far (I'm talking about you, Vancouver).
There's Gordie Howe.
ReplyDeleteThen....
there's the rest of us.
We are ALL wimps. No doubt about it.
Because I saw Mr. Howe play with the Red Wings, I'm wondering, am I officially old? If I recall correctly, in that game v. the Rangers, Ol' Gordie laid the lumber to quite a few guys, non of whom opted to dicuss geriatrics with Mr. Howe.
Hey, I saw Gordie play, too -- though not with the Wings. I did, however, catch him and his sons and the rest of the New England Whalers take it to the Winnipeg Jets (no link needed). The Howe line even indulged us with Gordie's quick switch from right to left on a 2-on-1 break-away. Wasn't enough to get past Joe Daley, mind you, but for a moment everyone in the arena was a New England fan.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite story on this spread is associated with his feet: "Eventually I said, 'The hell with it.' I went out dancing with my wife." Evidently Gordie's "Put me in, Coach" attitude was applied to his marital duties also, which seems to have served him very well.
ReplyDelete....and sorry to hear that the composition PC bit the dust. 13 years is pretty remarkable. Is a MacBook beckoning?????
ReplyDeleteThank you ... yes, a MacBook ... may be beckoning. I'm not sure the MacAccount has the wherewithal to respond ... just yet.
