Dickner does seem to hold out the possibility of resolution for these characters, doesn't he? Certainly that is the expectation among we who still plonk down the money and actually read books.Whisky Prajerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14076228013022881173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329706.post-19568807614032904352011-02-21T15:41:39.780-05:002011-02-21T15:41:39.780-05:00Uhmmm. that s/b middle, not "middel". I've been trying to stay away from Middle English spelling.DarkoVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11572734667248592785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329706.post-60359689014346546412011-02-21T15:39:28.724-05:002011-02-21T15:39:28.724-05:00WP,

Both the review and the book were well-written and interesting to read. Unlike the book, I did not feel the need to throw my monitor against the wall (As a comment on the current state of book-binding in this country..come on guys! One bounce against a plaster wall should not be reason enough for pages to escape the confines of the paperback).
I do love the cover of the book and, after reading the book, I know for sure that I never want to be visiting Nikolski, Alaska anytime soon in my journey through the 9 Circles of Hell. I also gained an appreciation of dumpster-diving in the banking section of Montreal and of working in a fishmongers shop in the same city.
However, what I never left the book with is a feeling of resolution. Life, in general, has no resolutions or, when it does, results in subsequent events in need of resolving. Fiction is an escape from that irritating bit of Life; it tends to have resolution.

So...Mr. Dickner, I'm coming for you in search of "Nikolski"'s resolution.

Thanks for the review, Sir. Well-woven presentation of "Nikolski" and you.DarkoVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11572734667248592785noreply@blogger.com
