"Breaking Away", my personal favorite quote, qucikly bringing up memories of pew-sitting and waiting for the confessional door to open...
"Dave: Did you ever go to confession?
Moocher: Twice.
Dave: Did it make you feel better?
Moocher: Once.

I have a hard time being objective about the movie as Stev Tesich was the writer. MR. Tesich was born in Uzice, Yugoslavia, when the latter was one (relatively) happy country. After "Breaking Away", he went on to write "Four Friends", a movie that seems incredibly longer than its alleged 114 minutes. Only someone from his part of the world would have the patience to see this movie in its entirety (Trust me on this...I loved "four Friends" because there's a lot in the movie re. the Old Country. Wehn I persuaded some poor friends to watch the movie, sleep quickly overtook them). While his other movie scripts were admirable, Tesich, IMHO, hit his peak with "Breaking Away". As you noted, it is a gem of a movie combing a great script, tlaented young actors and great oldr supporting actors. The only other movie that I think comes close to being so great, in as far as a young unknown cast matched with an out-of-this-world script is Barry Levinson's Diner.
Great movie to bring up, WP.DarkoVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11572734667248592785noreply@blogger.com
